Safe guidance with BGM PRO engine cable rubber sets

The BGM PRO engine silent rubber sets for the Vespa PK models are available in three versions: soft, medium and hard:

  • Soft/Original: Almost identical to original Piaggio silent rubbers. Very comfortable, our recommendation for the everyday rider without sporty ambitions.
    Colour marking: 2 x red

  • Medium/Touring: Slightly firmer than the original Piaggio silent rubbers. Thus clearly better driving characteristics without the everyday life quality under it suffers. The reinforced rubbers have asymmetrical degrees of hardness. Therefore the driving comfort remains despite tighter suspension.
    Colour coding: 1 x red, 1 x green

  • Hard/Sport: For racing or the hard-boiled tuning enthusiast who doesn`t mind vibrations, but who places a high value on the proverbial driving on rails.
    Colour marking: 2 x green

For a high level of active safety, we recommend that you regularly change the engine silicone rubbers. These guide the complete engine block in the vehicle frame and transmit all drive, braking and steering forces. Together with the rider`s weight and, if applicable, that of a passenger, intact silent-rubbers are very positively noticeable in that you simply do not notice them.

Worn silent rubbers can be recognized by a spongy ride, similar to a tire with too little air pressure. To check, move the engine at right angles to the direction of travel. To do this, hold the vehicle with your left hand, grasp the rear tire at the 3 o`clock position with your right hand and try to push it away from you and pull it back in again. The engine must only be able to move slightly in the frame. If the engine can be moved noticeably in the frame, a replacement of the silent rubber should be planned in the near future. The assembly is simple and offers itself e.g. in the course of an engine revision, if the engine is already removed anyway, ideally.

With the bgm engine silent rubbers supplied in a pair, the chassis regains directional stability, steering precision and stiffness.

TIP: Together with the silent rubbers, the shock absorbers/struts should also be checked regularly. Here too, it is better to replace them sooner rather than too late.

MOUNTING

There are two different silent rubber systems on PK models:

  • Type 1: Two inserted silent blocks, each with a short steel tube vulcanized into it (like the BGM silent blocks).

  • Type 2: A long tube and pressed-in rubbers which are secured on the tube by means of a locking ring.

The BGM silent rubbers are suitable for both types. The old rubbers can be easily removed from the housing of type 1 (lever out). With type 2, the caulked circlips of the tube must be removed, the tube pushed out and the rubbers levered out. Then push the new BGM PRO rubbers back into the housing with a little talcum powder and, if necessary, use a non-rebounding hammer to adjust them a little. Mount the silent rubbers dry, do not grease/oil them. Use talcum powder for easier installation.

Please note: The silent rubbers in the Medium/Touring version (BGM7954) are to be installed directionally:

  • Left in direction of travel: Red colour marking

  • In driving direction right: Green colour marking
